Title: Asperitas Clouds in Time Lapse Concept: Waves in clouds on an inversion surface as seen from below Detail: The Cloud Appreciation Society successfully petitioned the World Meteorological Society to recognize a new variety of stratiform clouds - asperitas (aka asperatus). Meaning "roughened", the clouds resemble the surface of sea, and indeed mark the propagation of internal gravity waves within the inversion in which the cloud occurs. These clouds have formed on the cold pool of air left behind from a thunderstorm the prior night. Video Credit: WeatherVideoHD.TV
